The Office for Civil Rights has been divided into three main divisions to allow HHS to better focus on combatting different aspects of discrimination in the U.S.
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) announced that it has reorganized its Office for Civil Rights (OCR), which is charged with enforcing laws that protect civil rights, conscience and religious freedom, and health information privacy and security. This reorganization returns OCR to a program-based structure with three subject-matter divisions aligned with the office’s three most critical focus areas: the Conscience and Religious Freedom Division, the Civil Rights Division, and the Health Information Privacy, Data, and Cybersecurity Division.
HHS Office for Civil Rights Director Paula Stannard stated that this reorganization will help prioritize civil rights and religious freedoms. HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. also stated, “This reorganization restores the HHS Civil Rights Division and the Conscience and Religious Freedom Division and strengthens the Office for Civil Rights’ ability to defend religious liberty, enforce security protections, and combat unlawful discrimination. Under President Trump’s leadership, HHS will defend these rights with clarity, accountability, and resolve.”
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For Director Stannard as she leads the effort of the Office of Civil Rights to uphold religious freedom and conscience protections.
- For Secretary Kennedy, as he seeks to ensure the protection of civil rights by the federal health department.
